THE ISLE of Wight Steam Railway, tree climbing company Goodleaf and an eco-friendly cottage in Shorwell have been shortlisted for prestigious tourism awards.

They are competing in the Beautiful South Awards for excellence held by Tourism South East against businesses and attractions from across the south.

Brookside Cottage has been shortlisted in the sustainable tourism category, Goodleaf Tree Climbing which offers tree climbing experiences is up for an award in the best tourism category and the Isle of Wight Steam Railway in Havenstreet could scoop the large attraction category.

Peter Colling, managing director of Tourism South East, said: "The standard of all entrants is exceptional this year and the shortlist selection has proved extremely challenging.

"In the current economic climate, it is more important than ever to provide an outstanding visitor experience and we are delighted to recognise their efforts. I congratulate all who have been shortlisted."

Tourism South East will announce the winners on November 28. For further information, look at the website www.beautifulsouthawards.co.uk

Astounding that get that far without an iota of assistance from a council hell bent on destroying tourism on the Ilsand.

The may beleive that people will be fooled by the 5.2 million they are claiming to spend on so called 'green' touism....but lets make this clear...they are cutting our essential residents services and not increasing the council tax...where will this 5.2 million come from....our existing services that will be further cut to support their minority tourism they hope will win them an award and maybe the next election.......people aren't that stupid...

There is currently not one tourism attraction here on the IoW that has a Changing Places Toilet.
