THE Island’s heritage is on show at a selection of venues.

In addition to a variety of displays by the Ryde Social Heritage Group from today (Friday) and over the weekend, at St Thomas’s Heritage Centre in the town, Ryde District Heritage Centre is also open.

The Union Street centre, beneath the Royal Victoria Arcade, was officially opened this year.

Packed with town history displays, the centre — between 11am and 4pm today, tomorrow and Sunday — has a lace-making demonstration and displays from the Workers’ Education Association and Cowes Heritage.

Newport Roman Villa opens between 10.30am and 4pm tomorrow and Ventnor Heritage Centre and the Isle of Wight Steam Railway at Havenstreet, also take part in heritage open days.
