KNITTERS are being urged to get out their knitting needles again to raise funds for Age UK Isle of Wight.

They can donate wool and knit little woollen hats that are then placed over Innocent smoothie bottles and sold in November.

Last year, Island residents taking part in The Big Knit raised £1,427.25, which went to projects to help keep older people warm in winter.

This year, Age UK Isle of Wight hopes to exceed that total and needs more people to donate wool and knit at least 5,709 hats. The charity needs donations of wool and needles and hopes knitters will register an interest.

Jo Dare, chief officer at Age UK Isle of Wight said: "We were amazed and gratified by the response last year from Islanders. Let’s hope we have an even bigger response this year."

More details from Kay Lunn at Age UK Isle of Wight on 01983 525282.

To raise funds locally with your knitted hats, send them to Age UK Isle of Wight at 14 Pyle Street, Newport, Isle of Wight PO30 1JW.
