COWES RNLI Lifeboat was launched in the early hours of this morning (Thursday).
The crew was called out at 1.25am after reports of a RIB in need of assistance in the Solent.
After a search, the RIB was located at Ryde Bank with the use of VHF equipment.
A spokesman for Cowes RNLI said on Twitter: "It highlighted the importance of carrying a VHF radio. The search was shortened considerably by being able to use our VHF direction finder."
The rescued boat was towed back to Portsmouth Harbour by Gosport and Fareham Inshore Rescue Service, which was involved in the search.
