Lights out at panto performance

The cast of Rapunzel, whose Shanklin Theatre show was interupted by a power cut. Picture by Peter Boam.

A PANTO performance was interrupted by a power cut on Friday, when the cast had to swap spotlights for torches.

Spotlight Isle of Wight’s show Rapunzel was temporarily brought to a halt ten minutes from the end, when Shanklin Theatre and surrounding properties were hit by the power cut.

Undeterred, and with emergency lighting and torches, the cast — including Rowan Lathey as Rapunzel — went into the audience to meet panto-goers.

Unfortunately the power could not be restored until later that evening, but theatre manager Roger Coleman said it did not stop the audience having a good time.

"There was a lovely atmosphere," he said.

For more on the show, including pictures, see the Isle of Wight County Press on Friday, January 3.

Lee for the amount of times such a power failure has happened, (the first to my knowledge since The Trust and The Friends took over the Theatre on April 23rd 2010) I don't think a Stand By Generator is justified considering the work yet to be done, for example, look here

http://www.shanklintheatre.com/appeal.aspx

Why not come to the Theatre this coming Saturday and join us in our Monthly Coffee Cake 'n' Chat, have a tour of the Theatre and see just what has been done in the three and a bit years. All done either by the volunteers themselves, or with monies raised by the volunteers where external professionals have had to be used.

If anybody would like to join a 'Winning Team' and help at the Theatre, come along between 10.00 and Noon this coming Saturday 4th January. Volunteers put in what hours they can, all volunteers "volunteer" their hours and duties according to volunteer sheets on the staff notice board.
