POLICE on the Isle of Wight are investigating after a man was assaulted last night (Thursday).
It is alleged a 39 year old man was assaulted by a 48 year old man in Quay Street, Newport, shortly after 11pm.
The man received a fractured jaw and injuries to his nose and eye and was taken to St Mary's Hospital by ambulance.
The 48-year-old was arrested on suspicion of Grievous Bodily Harm with intent.
Police have cordoned off an area in Quay Street, while investigations are carried out.
Anyone with information about the incident is asked to call Newport Police Station on 101.
