Man critical but stable after crash

A 75-YEAR-OLD man involved in a collision near Newport is described as critical but stable in hospital.

The accident happened yesterday (Tuesday) in Staplers Road when three vehicles were involved.

A second accident victim, a woman, 70, was described as stable and comfortable at St Mary's Hospital..

*Meanwhile, police are trying to trace the driver of a silver car, which was travelling along Staplers Road from the Newport direction at around 9.30am yesterday (Tuesday).

It is believed the vehicle may have been overtaken shortly before the collision involving the silver Citreon Xsara Picasso, the blue Ford Ka and the blue Kia estate.

Police are appealing for the driver of the silver car to come forward as they may hold information which could help with the investigation.

Sgt Paul Bailey, of Shanklin Roads Policing Unit, said: "We’re keen to hear from the driver as we believe they were in the vicinity of the crash moments before it happened.

"If you think think this is you, get in touch as soon as possible, even if you don’t think you saw anything. Something you remember may assist with our investigation."
