AN ELDERLY man was taken to hospital suffering from life-threatening injuries following a three-car crash at Staplers Road at Wootton Bridge this morning.
The accident happened shortly before 9.30am and involved a silver Citroen Xsara Picasso, a blue Ford Ka and a blue Kia estate.
The driver of the Ka, an elderly man from Newport, sustained life-threatening injuries and had to be cut free from his vehicle along with the front seat passenger, an elderly woman, who is also from Newport.
Both were taken by ambulance to St Mary’s Hospital, Newport.
The driver of the Picasso, a 46-year-old woman from Newport, sustained minor injuries and was also taken to St Mary’s Hospital as a precaution.
The driver of the Kia, a 59-year-old man from Wootton Bridge, was not injured. Staplers Road remains closed between Blacklands Road and Briddlesford Road and is expected to remain so until 4pm.
Police are appealing for witnesses to the collision to contact Sgt Paul Bailey at Shanklin Roads Policing Unit on 101 quoting Operation Tennison.
