THE skipper of a yacht that got into severe difficulties in choppy conditions off the Isle of Wight was rescued by Yarmouth RNLI lifeboat on Saturday.
Solent Coastguard received the mayday from the 45ft yacht, which was three miles south of St Catherine’s Point, at 3.40pm.
The lone skipper reported his engine had failed and his sails were badly damaged.
With the wind reaching Force 5 strength and the yacht in a medium to rough swell, the skipper was suffering from sea sickness.
The lifeboat reached the stricken yacht within 50 minutes of the call out, attached a line to the vessel and towed it back to Yarmouth.
It arrived at Yarmouth harbour at 7.30pm.
