EXTRA police patrols are planned to help prevent crime during Aberdeen Asset Management Cowes Week.

Tens of thousands of people are expected to attend and police said they were working closely with regatta organisers, security staff and other emergency services to ensure everyone was safe, both on and off the water.

Local Safer Neighbourhoods Teams will increase foot and cycle patrols, and Hampshire Constabulary’s Marine Unit will be on patrol in The Solent.

Policing levels elsewhere on the Island will not be affected during the regatta, the force reassured.
