A NEW chairman and vice chairman have been elected to steer the Hampshire Police Authority until the appointment of a Police Commissioner later this year.
Cllr Adrian Collett, a Hampshire County Councillor, who joined the authority in 2000, was unanimously elected as chair and will be in office until the authority ceases to exist in November with the transition to a new governance structure.
Lena Samuels was elected vice chairman, while Isle of Wight councillor David Williams will continue to represent the Island and is on a transition committee ahead of the changeover.
Former police officer and Isle of Wight councillor Dave Stewart has been appointed as the Isle of Wight Council’s representative on the new police and crime panel that will eventually scrutinise the performance of the new police commissioner.
The panel’s first meeting will be held at the end of this month.
