A NEW Poundland store could be opening on the Isle of Wight.

The news was announced on the Twitter page of the Isle of Wight Job Centre Plus yesterday (Tuesday).

It said: 'New Poundland store opening in Ryde! Ask in Newport or Ryde Jobcentre for more info or an application form.'

Despite the Tweet, a spokesperson for Poundland said nothing had been confirmed for a new store and no contracts had been signed.

A statement to the County Press said: "Poundland is currently considering the acquisition of new stores to add to those already opened this year. The stringent acquisition process ensures the new stores are positioned in the right location and fit Poundland’s customer profile.

"Due to the popularity of Poundland’s product ranges, the organisation is keen not to raise anticipation for a new store before plans are finalised. Therefore, Poundland cannot disclose any more information at this stage."
