ORGANISATIONS on the Isle of Wight are now able to use new equipment in the fight against crime.
Hermes property registration scanners and laptops provide police, community support officers, schools and universities with a fast, accurate and secure way to register personal property online at www.immobilise.com— a free online property register.
The Hermes technology is used by Hampshire Constabulary to help reduce offences, convict criminals and reunite stolen property with its rightful owners.
Hermes works by ensuring quick and easy registration of identifiable property and, utilising the built-in scanner, any serial numbers and property descriptions can be recorded accurately.
Hermes can also be used to check identifiable property via the National Mobile Property Register (NMPR)
The devices are currently available for use by all Hampshire Constabulary employees and can now be loaned to partner agencies, such as schools and universities, so they can register their own property.
DI Kevin Dennis said: "Hermes is a valuable tool in the registration of identifiable property by members of the public. It has the capability to record property and directly upload this information to the Immobilise website.
"This site is linked to the NMPR, which is used by the police to identify stolen property."
