New youth website for Isle of Wight

YOPPUL, a new Isle of Wight youth website, has launched today (Monday).

From gaming, music, skateboarding to sexual health and careers, yoppul will focus on what matters for the Island’s young people.

Its name was inspired by an Isle of Wight dialect word for incessant gabble or non-stop chatter and the site has been designed as a hub for youth issues, culture and creativity.

With a wealth of talent on the Island, the new site has a strong emphasis on user-generated content, video, audio and pictures with opportunities for young people to drive what appears on the site.

Social media will play a big part thanks to Facebook and Twitter.

The site has been sponsored by leading training provider HTP for the first year and has been created by the Isle of Wight County Press.

Former Carisbrooke High School student and Exeter University graduate Emily Scotcher, 22, has been appointed as co-ordinator and for the past month she has been spreading the word about yoppul at a host of Island events.

"It’s a one-stop hub for young people on the Isle of Wight. We want to give them the latest news, features and events as well as the chance to get involved and contribute their own ideas," she said.

Emily appealed for anyone interested in getting involved in the project to get in touch

Emily can be contacted on 01983 521333 ext 150, by e-mail on emily@yoppul.co.uk, or via facebook.com/yoppulonline or Twitter via @yoppulonline
