DOUBLE Olympic gold medal winner Shirley Robertson will carry the Olympic torch in Newport on Saturday — the day before her 44th birthday.
Top sailor, Shirley, who lives with her family in Cowes, will take over at around 3pm from the junction of Carisbrooke Road with the High Street.
She will join 15 other torch bearers who will be expected to draw crowds in Yarmouth, Totland, The Needles Park, Carisbrooke, Newport and East Cowes.
Speaking today Shirley said she was really hoping the rain stayed away.
"It will be great if there is a good crowd of people who come out to support us," said Shirley, who said her family and friends would be there.
