POTENTIAL foster carers on the Isle of Wight can find out more about the process this week thanks to a Fostering Fortnight roadshow.

Fostering Fortnight, which launched today (Monday) is a national event aimed at promoting and providing information about fostering.

A series of information events have been organised, with Isle of Wight Council fostering and adoption officers and carers on hand to talk to anyone interested in becoming a carer.

The fortnight got underway this morning with the roadshow stopping at Waitrose supermarket in East Cowes.

There will be more sessions over the next few days, each from 11am to 3pm.

They include Lidl in Shanklin tomorrow, Tesco in Ryde on Thursday, Co-op in Freshwater on Friday, Morrisons in Lake on Monday, Sainsbury in Newport on Tuesday and Co-op in Ryde on Wednesday.

Isle of Wight Council cabinet member for children’s services Cllr Dawn Cousins said: "Fostering is not just about caring for a young child, it can also be about becoming foster parents to teenagers and young adults.

"Fostering Fortnight is an ideal opportunity for anyone to come along and speak to staff as well as carers themselves to hear first hand what being a foster carer is all about."
