'One drink-driver is too many' police message

By Martin Neville

Thursday, January 10, 2013

A SINGLE arrest is one too many according to a senior police officer who said there was no excuse for drink-driving.

Insp Martin Goodall, of the roads policing unit, said it was difficult to say what was behind an increase in drink-drive arrests on the Isle of Wight this Christmas, but said there was no excuse for people committing the offence.

During the Smashed campaign 19 drivers were arrested, compared to 16 the previous year.

Insp Goodall said: "We always put a significant amount of effort into specific anti drink driving operations at this time of year and may just have found more offenders.

"On the other hand, people may just be refusing to make the responsible choice — and it is a choice — not to drink and drive.

"Whatever the reason, any number of arrests is too many and whether its being done through ignorance or arrogance there's simply no excuse."

Surely the police mean one drink is to many not one drunk driver .
Anyone who can afford to go drinking can afford a cab that is just common sense ,
All drink drivers should be prosecuted for driving a lethal weapon .
We have banned smoking and no one has killed another person be doing that so why do we not ban drinking and driving completely those who drive while working do not drink so why must we tolerate others who do not care enough to take a chance with other peoples lives.

Insp Goodall, based on your success so far please do not confine your checks to 1 week out of 52 and get your officers where they should be and that is out patrolling the roads and not sitting in offices

I wonder if someone will be along to blame immigrants?
