WITH schools cross country races taking place last week, few Harlow Running Club youngsters competed in the first Essex Cross Country League event.

The hot, sunny conditions were not ideal for this type of running, but Terri Mitchell was first home for the club in the under-13 girls race in 43rd place overall, while Sarah-Jane Hunt was only four places behind her.

In the under-15 girls race, Janine Aldridge finished 32nd in her first cross country race at this standard.

The Harlow ladies team were the success of the day with third place. Tracey Alexandrou came home in an excellent 11th place with the ever improving Jane Williams 28th.

Although not fully fit, Phil Jones still managed to finish seventh, leading the mens team to a creditable eighth position.
