Many of Britain's top athletes will be in action at Barnet Copthall Stadium on Saturday when Shaftesbury Barnet host the last Division One league match of the season.

Heading the Shaftesbury team is javelin star David Parker, fresh from his tremendous triumph in the World Junior Championships. Main opposition will come from his Shaftesbury clubmate Nick Nieland and British No 3 Mark Roberson (Newham and Essex Beagles).

There will be some top class sprinting with Shaftesbury's Jason Livingston pitched against Belgrave's British European Championship representatives Darren Campbell, Dwain Chambers and John Regis, as well as Scotland's European Cup 200m winner Doug Walker, running for Newham.

Having won one of their three previous encounters this season, Shaftesbury Barnet go into the match safe in fifth place, guaranteed a place in the top flight for another season.

Despite holding a clear lead, reigning champions Belgrave are taking nothing for granted and plan to field their strongest possible team at Copthall. Their two other European Championship team members, Chris Rawlinson (400m hurdles) and Sean Baldock (400m) will also be in action.

Belgrave's powerful line-up also includes AAA 800m champion Jason Lobo, pole vaulters Mike Edwards and Ian Tullett, AAA 1500m bronze medallist Matt Yates, top hammer throwers, Mike Jones, who switched from Shaftesbury this season, and high jumpers Ben Challenger and Brendan Reilly.

Positions going into the final match are: 1 Belgrave 23. 2 Sale 18 (916 match points). 3 Newham and Essex Beagles 18 (884). 4 Shaftesbury 16. 5 Puma TVH 12. 6 Birchfield 10. 7 Border 7. 8 City of Edinburgh 4.

The meeting starts at 12noon, with the first track event at 2.15pm.
