Power was out for hours

THOUSANDS of homes were without power yesterday (Thursday) following storms and lightning strikes over the Isle of Wight.

Around 2,300 homes were without power from around 2pm and some did not have their power restored until 10pm according to a Southern Electric spokesman.

As reported, one family escaped injury after their home in Upton Road, Ryde was struck by lightning.
