PLANS for a new sixth form building at Christ the King College are being recommended for approval.
The proposed two-storey building, which will accommodate around 300 pupils, will go before Isle of Wight Council planners next Tuesday.
According to the committee report, the building would be modular, brought to the site in sections and 'bolted’ together.
It would include an ICT suite, dance/drama studio, a music room, an art room, a common room and private study space, a graphics room, two classrooms, two science labs and a resistant materials room.
A community library and internet cafe are also proposed.
The council has received 58 letters of support and just nine against.
At the same meeting, planners will also decide whether two temporary classroom buildings and a temporary sports hall can remain on site.
The original permissions were granted subject to a condition that the buildings would have to be removed, and the land restored to its former condition, on or before August 30, 2012.
The application seeks to allow the developments to remain on site for a further three years and conditional permission is being recommended by planning officers.
