Race night boost for charities

THE Charity Challenge 2012 received another boost on Friday night at a charity race night.

The event, at Carisbrooke's Waverley pub, was organised by Island Bakeries Cricket Club, which shared the profits from the event.

Punters bet on pre-recorded horse races, 'bought' the horses and sponsored races. An auction at the end of the evening for a pig race helped swell the coffers.

Around £635 was raised at the event, which will be split between the cricket club and the Charity Challenge.

Charity Challenge is organised by the County Press and Isle of Wight Radio and is raising money for the Isle of Wight Young Carers and Carisbrooke Priory.

The next event in aid of the Charity Challenge is the Zumbathon at Medina Theatre on Saturday.

This starts at 11am and runs for at least an hour. It costs £5 to enter and you can sign up at http://www.iwcp.co.uk/zumbathon.aspx or on the Isle of Wight Radio website, or turn up on the day.
