Randonnee hailed a success

WET weather did not put the skids on this year's Randonnee, which attracted more than 1,600 riders.

Although numbers were down on previous years — in 2011 about 2,100 riders took part — the Randonnee, run by the Wayfarer Cycletouring Club, was hailed a success.

Andy Newman, chairman of the Randonnee organising committee, said: "We had about what we expected, considering the weather.

"There was still a brilliant atmosphere on the day and everyone was in high spirits, so we were really pleased."

Riders from the Island were joined by many who travelled from the mainland to take part.

I just wish that these lycra clad quinquagenarians would keep their "high spirits" on the roads and cycle tracks and stop risking peoples lives by hurtling around blind corners on 1 metre wide PUBLIC FOOTPATHS as they have been doing on the Ventnor Coastal footpath and the NT 27/28 footpaths from Ventnor to Niton.
The clue is in the word FOOT path! Stay off them!
