Recognition for young achievers

Isle of Wight High Sheriff Nick Hayward.

DO you know of a young person who has managed to achieve in the face of adversity?

Do you know someone who has made a difference to someone else’s life?

If a name springs to mind, they could be eligible for the High Sheriff Children and Young People Certificates 2013.

Isle of Wight High Sheriff Nick Hayward said: "The certificates are intended to celebrate the invaluable role children and young people play in the Island community.

"The aim is to recognise someone who has overcome significant difficulties in their lives or who has had a positive impact on their own or another’s life through something they’ve done."

The other aim is to help direct those who are vulnerable away from crime, anti-social behaviour, substance misuse and other things that may have a negative effect on their lives."

Young people can be nominated at the County Press website. Every nomination will be considered by the Youth Inclusion Forum, which is chaired by the High Sheriff.

The deadline for nominations is next Friday, January 18. A presentation evening will be held at Quay Arts, Newport, on Thursday, March 14.

• To nominate someone, fill out the form here and return it to Martin Poynter, Youth Inclusion Forum, 14 Juniper Close, Newport, Isle of Wight , PO30 4EW, or e-mail martin.poynter@iow.gov.uk
