GOLF: Electrical engineer David Cambden and golf pro Michael Ridge, of Shooters Hill GC, can enjoy the trip of a lifetime if they win the final round of Europe's biggest pro-am torunament, the Lombard Trophy. They have qualified for the regional final of the event at Chartham Park on July 7 which promises as its top prize a five-day visit to the luxurious San Lorenzo course in Portugal. The winners of 16 regional finals will compete at San Lorenzo from September 25 to 29.

TABLE TENNIS: More than 100 youngsters took part in the London Junior Table Tennis Ranking Scheme at the Waterfront Leisure Centre, Woolwich. James Muir of Lewisham was the most outstanding, winning the U17 intermediate category and then moving up to finish third in the advanced section. Ben Orhevba of Greenwich was second in the U12 intermediate category.

FOOTBALL: News Shopper editorial staff were left shell-shocked from a 10-0 defeat by advertising sales firm Lionrock, of Bromley. Charles Heslett, captain of the News Shopper team Haslett's Heroes, said after the friendly: "Although we'd never played together before as an 11, we put up a good fight and never lost heart. Unfortunately, some of our lads ate too much cake before the game."
