PLANS for a new restaurant in Newport were discussed by Isle of Wight Council licensing bosses on Thursday, but a decision will not be made until residents' concerns about noise are investigated further.
The licensing application, for a restaurant above Newport Ale House, in Holyrood Street, was submitted by Tudor Smith Estates Ltd.
The applicants — businessman William Smith, Island Life magazine owner Martin Potter and former French Franks proprietor Stephen Wyatt — say they want to open a sophisticated restaurant, called Reads, for families and older customers.
It would seat around 70 people.
Nearby residents, however, say another licensed premises above Newport Ale House would lead to crime and disorder.
The council's regulatory services committee was due to make a decision today, but adjourned the hearing to seek further information from environmental health officers regarding potential noise nuisance.
