Revamp for drink and drug offender course

PILOT schemes aimed at re-educating alcohol and drug offenders on the Isle of Wight are to be revamped.

The delivery of two Penalty Notice for Disorder (PND) diversion schemes, giving offenders a chance to attend educational courses as an alternative to paying a fine, will change tomorrow (Saturday).

Currently, the scheme, run by Druglink, enables police officers to issue PNDs to people who are drunk and disorderly, in possession of cannabis, or offenders of criminal damage or public order where alcohol or substance misuse was a factor.

The schemes operate an opt-in system, meaning offenders choose to attend a course. However, under the changes, offenders will have to opt out.

It is hoped the changes will improve attendance on the courses, which aim to reduce the risk of people reoffending.

The courses cost £40 and once it has been completed, the original £80 fine is cancelled.

Second-time offenders cannot access the scheme.

1st offence give them a fine and a permanent visible tattoo.

2nd offence cut off one hand.

3rd offence cut off other hand.

4th offence life in prison paid for by work that they do in prison, no work, no food or water or bed, simple.

Let us look after our decent Isle of Wighters, not the scum who ruin other peoples lives on a daily basis.

Who is with me?!
