Mill Hill Village 253-8

Old Gaytonians 88 all out

Mill Hill Village proved too good for Old Gaytonians, finalists in the Middlesex Championship League Cup last season, with a fine all-round performance in a 167-run victory.

The outstanding feature was some superb fielding, highlighted by splendid catches by Clive Adams, Lewis Glover and Andrew Michaelides.

Put in, Village soon lost Kelvin Sutherland (7), 14-1. But Raj Thakerar (56) and Glover, who hit five fours in his 37, confidently laid the foundations for a substantial total with a second-wickt stand of 73, before Glover fell to a return catch by Khan.

Village slipped to 142-5 (Sizer 26), before Adams (24) and Dave Bunning (44) put on 69 for the sixth-wicket, and the innings ended at 253-8, off 45 overs.

In hostile opening spell, Sizer (2-11) struck in his first over, trapping Bailey (0) lbw and then had then other opener John Richardson caught by wicketkeeper Schroff off a fine lifting delivery, 7-2.

After 12 overs, Gaytonians were 19-2 and, in desperation, tried to hit their way out of trouble against spinners Richard Downes (3-33), Glover (2-12) and Michaelides.

But Adams held a tremendous catch head high on the boundary to account for Fieldhouse, Michaelides clutched a huge hit by Khan (24), and diving Lewis Glover took a superb catch in the deep to dispose of skipper Trevor Bailey.

Adams boosted his total of catches to three, accounting for Versammy (17) and Butt (13), and it was nearly all-over, ten-men Gaytonians eventually managing only 88 (Downes 3-33, Glover 2-12).
