Seafront plans approved

An artist's impression of how the new development would look.

REVISED plans to build a four-story block of flats and shops at the Mill Bay Inn along Ventnor’s Esplanade have been approved by planning chiefs.

The project will result in an art-deco style four-story building constructed on vacant land at the junction of The Esplanade and Esplanade Road.

The land was formerly part of the pub garden.

Plans to redevelop the site were turned-down by members of the Isle of Wight Council’s planning committee in March last year as they wanted a more eye-catching design for the key site.

Last night they agreed the revised plans, subject to conditions.

The conditions include the need for approval of the types of materials used, limiting the opening hours of the retail unit from 9am to 6pm and suitable car parking being laid out on the site.

As usual, the CP is first with this good news.
Only 5 more eyesores to go and it'll look tidy.
