A TEENAGER suffered burns to his hand in an unprovoked attack in Wootton Bridge.

The assault happened in the New Road area at around 9.30pm on Saturday, October 6, when it is alleged a group of teenage boys assaulted a 13-year-old, and burned his hand with a cigarette lighter, according to Isle of Wight police.

The boy received bruising to his head, face and neck, and blisters to three fingers on his left hand.

None of the injuries were life-threatening, according to police.

Investigating officer, PC Adam Brown, said: "This was a vicious and cowardly unprovoked attack on a 13-year-old boy who has been left extremely upset by what happened.

"It’s likely the suspects attracted the attention of other members of the public in the Wootton Bridge area in the lead up to the assault.

"I would like to hear from anyone who thinks they might have seen or heard them, or who knows their identities."

Witnesses or anyone with information are asked to contact Newport Police Station by phoning 101.
