Thousands of pounds for Ventnor Enterprise Centre

By a County Press reporter

VENTNOR Town Council has been awarded £95,000 by the Coastal Communities Fund, towards the new Ventnor Enterprise Centre at Salisbury Gardens.

The town council plans to provide a centre for business start-ups and other enterprise in the creative industries and office-based services.

A substantial building programme to refurbish and reconfigure the rooms involved is already planned and will start soon, following the Isle of Wight Council's decision to lease the building to the town council.

It is expected the rooms will be ready by July and the town council said there was already significant interest.

A town council spokesman said: "The Coastal Communities Fund grant is an important contribution to the project that will stimulate the town's economy and extend the life of one of the town's iconic buildings."

At a meeting of the IW Council's overview and scrutiny committee last night (Thursday), councillors recommended the building was leased to Ventnor Town Council but not the land until it was valued.

Den
Of course it went out to tender, as required by the Financial Regulations all Town & Parish Councils have in place. The specification for the works runs to 10 pages. It's a big job: but the whole job will provide rooms for business start ups, a stimulas to the local a economy, a base for the local Safer Neighbourhoods Team of Hampshire Constabulary and a Commuinity Bub as well as preserving one of the town's few remaining iconic buildings. Value for money, I'd say.

what exactly is the £95000 being spent on? is it just decorating and a few false walls? because that's a lot of money for that, definitely needs to be explained a bit better, did the job go out to tender?

Thanks Johnathan; I can read perfectly well though. Is it somewhere to go for advice or is it office space, or is it something else. The article is not exactly clear on what it is.

Myself and the present Mrs Hunt were in Ventnor just last week, and while watching a young gentleman securing his well known breed of fighting dog outside the Coop , commented to each other "if only he had somewhere to develop his creative side he could swap that length of garden twine for a hand tooled leather lead" .

Owen: The second paragraph says "The town council plans to provide a centre for business start-ups and other enterprise in the creative industries and office-based services." So I think that's what's just been funded.

I've read it twice now and still don't know what it is. What is this that has just been funded?
