TWO people had to be cut free from their car in the early hours of this morning (Sunday) following a three-vehicle smash on Yarmouth Road, Isle of Wight.

Three people suffered serious, but not life-threatening, injuries in the incident which happened at around 12.30am, outside Blackberry Barn, involving a Volkswagen Golf, a Honda Civic and a Ford Escort.

One of the vehicles had left the road and gone through a hedge, according to police.

Two fire crews from Newport attended and used hydraulic cutting equipment to release two casualties from the Golf.

They were taken to St Mary's Hospital by ambulance.

Emergency services left the scene at around 2.30am.
