The Waterside pub in Cowes.
A WATERFRONT pub in Cowes closed its doors for the last time on Sunday, leaving 31 staff out of a job.
The Waterside, which is currently for sale for £1.65 million, was closed by general manager Keith Lunn, after his agreement with wealthy businessman owner Adam Gosling came to an end.
The pub, the only public bar right on the waterfront in the town, has planning permission for demolition of the bar, a three or four-storey building facing the High Street with six flats and a retail unit and two three-storey town houses next to the water.
Keith said: "I came as a manager then took it over and leased it from Adam. I have always known the plans were there for it to go.
"Since we have been here, we have got on with most of our neighbours and we don't get the comments the pub used to get. We have tried to run a bar for everyone, which is what everyone wanted.
"There's nothing we have done that has caused the closure and as far as I am aware Adam will pursue his plans for the building,"
