Ventnor Fringe Festival will host its biggest programme of events this year, from August
VENTNOR Fringe returns next month with its biggest ever programme of entertainment.
Now in its third year, the festival was founded in 2010 by a team of Ventnor teenagers and will take place this year from August 15th to 18th.
This year's event will feature more than 200 participants showcasing their work at venues across the town.
In a new collaboration, this year's event will also include the Isle of Wight Film Festival.
Among the offerings at this year's event will be free workshops by award-winning theatre company Paines Plough in producing and writing for the stage.
They will host readings of material by four writers from their project 'Come to Where I'm From.'
St Francis' Primary School will host a studio theatre where graduates from the Central School of Speech and Drama, London, as well as a new play by Isle of Wight writer Kevin Wilson and pieces from MOTUS and Replica Dance Company and others.
There will be music from the Isle of Wight's Camerata Choir, a classical concert by Suzie Shrubb at St Catherine's Church and a series of intimate concerts in venues including private houses, gardens and secret venues.
Among the acts featured will be French kora player Stranded Horse and Rozi Plain, who has supported artistes such as Devandra Banhart and Beach House.
Spoken word performers Indigo Williams and Toby Thompson also feature on the bill.
"Beyond performances there are opportunities to learn from the award-winning team at Prufrock Coffee who will be travelling from London’s Leather Lane to Ventnor’s Church Street to run special courses in making the finest espressos.
"You can also try your hand at the Charleston in the Blind Tiger Club, a 1920’s inspired speakeasy, watch the fireworks from the Observatory, our bar with a view and if you're lucky you may even find one of our famous secret venues or events!" said fringe founder member Jack Whitewood.
More information and tickets are available from www.vfringe.co.uk or the box office at 6 Church Street Ventnor, which will be open each day from Wendesday 25th July 2012.
