Weather disrupts Solent travel

GUSTY weather on the Solent disrupted hovercraft services from the Isle of Wight this morning (Monday).

Hovertravel suspended services between Ryde and Southsea due to adverse weather conditions.

Wightlink’s 7.40am sailing from Ryde and the 8.10am from Ryde were cancelled due to a mechanical problem.

There was significant disruption to Wightlink car ferry and passenger services, throughout the morning, *however at 12.55pm the company said services had returned to normal.

At around 10.25am Red Funnel suspended its car ferry service. That was followed by the suspension of the Red Jet at around 10.45am.

At around 11.30am the company said winds had died down and the 10.30am car ferry from Southampton to East Cowes was due to leave shortly.

Red Jet services were due to resume at 12.45pm.

*Hovertravel services were restored by 2.45pm.
