Woman badly burned in street acid attack

POLICE have confirmed that a 22-year-old woman suffered "life changing" burns to her face in an early hours attack in an Isle of Wight High Street today (Wednesday).

After the assault outside the Royal China Restaurant in Sandown, the woman was taken for emergency treatment at a specialist burns unit.

The woman suffered serious facial burns, believed to have been caused by a corrosive liquid, said police.

A 48-year-old woman was arrested on suspicion of grievous bodily harm with intent, and a 24-year-old woman on suspicion of assisting an offender.Officers have been investigating the incident all day. They say they are not seeking anyone else in connection with the attack and regard it as an isolated incident.

*10.34 A police spokewoman said this morning (Thursday) that officers were continuing to question a woman following an incident at Sandown, Isle of Wight, in which a 22-year-old woman sustained serious facial burns.

The 48-year-old woman, arrested on suspicion of causing grievous bodily harm with intent, remains in custody.

The 24-year-old woman, arrested on suspicion of assisting an offender, has been bailed until next week pending further inquiries.

A 22-year-old woman from Sandown remains in a specialist burns unit, where she is undergoing treatment for serious facial burns.

*16.36 Police have this afternoon (Thursday) charged a 48-year-old woman with one count of causing grievous bodily harm with intent. Sau Lin-Hin, of Mulberry Way, Ryde, is due to appear before Isle of Wight magistrates tomorrow (Friday).
