Mrs Annie Rosemary Richards.

A FORMER president of Newchurch WI, Annie Rosemary Richards, has died, aged 89.

Mrs Richards, known as Rosemary, grew up in Bristol and during the Second World War served as a sergeant with the Auxiliary Territorial Service.

She moved to the Island after marrying her late husband, Albert, in 1947, and the couple lived at The Shute, Newchurch, for more than 40 years.

Mrs Richards played an active part in village life and was a member of Newchurch WI, serving as president for ten years, and she was a member of Newchurch Art Group.

She helped with the brownies, took part in Newchurch Horticultural Society shows and did flower arranging at All Saints’ Church.

Mrs Richards moved to Pulborough, West Sussex, in 1993.

She leaves her sisters, Pat and Pauline, daughter, Linda, grandchildren, Tracy and Paul, and great grandchildren, Harrison, Caitlin and Holly.

Her funeral will be held at Worthing Crematorium on Monday, June 11.
