RUGBY IW PRODUCED a great performance on Saturday to defeat Farnborough 31-20 in a double-header match which earned vital Hampshire One points, and a place in the next round of the Hampshire Gale’s Plate.
Tries from Nick Puckett, two, Nathan Tombleson, Dan Stirrup and Brett Evans secured a good victory against a Farnborough side which was particularly threatening in the maul.
Meanwhile, Sandown and Shanklin’s first team could not get a winning run going as they narrowly lost 16-13 at home to Purley John Fisher.
Their second team fared better, beating Havant A 39-17.
Both of Ventnor’s games were called off.
