RUGBY
FOUR of the Island’s rugby sides braved appalling conditions to play their matches last weekend — and win.
While the football programme was obliterated, only Sandown and Shanklin’s two matches were cancelled.
The IW battled to a 17-10 home win over basement side Aldershot and Fleet in Hampshire One, while in Hampshire Two, on a pitch that was barely playable, Ventnor travelled to Stoneham and won 23-0.
Ventnor II also won their match in Merit Three, defeating Farnborough II 21-17.
The biggest win of the day, however, came in Merit Two where Ryde beat Basingstoke Cavaliers 47-3.
