Bacardi Miami Sailing Week: The Viper 640 skippered by IW sailor Glyn Locke, with David Chapman and Ian Nicholson. Picture by Onne Van Der Wal.
SAILINGIW SAILOR Glyn Locke has crewed his way to glory in the Bacardi Miami Sailing Week.
Finishes of second, seventh and second across the final three races contested by the 14-boat Viper 640 fleet, was just right to allow skipper Locke and his crew of Australian David Chapman and fellow British sailor Ian Nicholson to successfully defend their title.
He said that, despite the team’s geographic challenges, with Chapman living in Sydney, they all sailed a lot of boats and kept fit.
"You have to be fit to sail these boats," he said. "Going into day three, the pressure is on. The winds were light and fluky and we were lucky but it was very satisfying to win after a few gruelling days."
