CYCLING clubs on the Island have teamed up with the sport’s governing body to promote the sport to the next generation.
British Cycling, with the help of IW Junior Cycling Club and Wight Tri, will be running two fun Go-Ride events aimed at getting youngsters either into cycling as a hobby — on the first step on the road to a racing career.
The first event takes place next Sunday, February 26, between noon and 3pm, where youngsters aged from six to 16 can put their bike, and their skills, to the test in a road race criterium.
Each cyclist will have two attempts around the course, set in the car park of IW College, to record the fastest time.
Sessions will run on the hour and a limited number of bikes and helmets will also be available for those who do not own their own set of wheels.
The second event, which takes place on March 18, is a cyclo-cross event — racing over a mixture of terrains — at Robin Hill, again between noon and 3pm.
British Cycling-trained coaches will be on hand at both events to offer support.
