IW RIDERS enjoyed some great results at the Sotonia Heath race in the New Forest last week.
Wightlink Cycle Racing Team members Sam Baker, Dominic Coughlin, James Ebdon and Tim Wiggins competed in the 50km race, with Ebdon managing to get into a breakaway with five other riders to establish a 15-second gap over the main peloton but by the second lap they were back with the main bunch.
Three riders attacked again and opened up a gap of around a minute on the second lap, Baker, Ebdon and Wiggins all tried to get across to the leaders but team tactics came into play and they were muscled out.
However, coming into the final climb up to the finish, Wiggins was in a great position at the front with Baker and Ebdon a bit further back. With 150m to go, Ebdon used his powerful sprint and won the bunch sprint and took fourth, with Wiggins sixth and Baker tenth.
A few days later, Ebdon, Wiggins, Baker and Kev Foster raced at the Mountbatten Centre in Portsmouth.
Baker, Foster and Wiggins competed in the first race, with Wiggins taking an excellent second, with Baker 16th and Foster 17th.
In the elite race, Ebdon came fifth in the sprint, but tenth overall.
