Percy makes World Youth Championships

ATHLETICS

DISCUS throwing star Nick Percy has qualified for the World Youth Championships in Barcelona.

Nick, 17, of Bonchurch, broke his own personal best at the 1.75kg in each of the six round competition at the AAA under-20s and under-23s British Championships in Bedford last weekend.

His previous record was 56.12m, but in the under-20 competition, he threw distances of 56.13m, 58.14m, 59.33m twice, 56.77m and 57.44m.

His top throw of 59.33 was almost two metres over the qualifying standard for athletes trying to qualify for the games, which take place in three weeks’ time.
