TENNIS TEENAGER Jadon Buckeridge completed a terrific treble at Ryde Lawn Tennis and Croquet Club’s (RLTCC) annual junior tournament.
Jadon, 15, won the 14 and under boys’ singles, 16 and under boys’ singles and the 15 and under boys’ doubles during the week-long tournament, sponsored by Sporties and the IW County Press.
In the 14 and under singles, Jadon, a RLTCC member, beat Worcestershire’s Oliver Kenward in two sets.
The Yaverland teenager was 5-2 down in the first set but won five consecutive games to take it 7-5, before claiming the title with a 6-1 second set victory.
Jadon also won the 16 and under competition in two sets, beating Ventnor’s Jack Stapeley 6-1, 6-3, and added the 15 and under doubles title with a 7-5, 6-2 victory over Jonathan and Robert Lankester (Herts), with partner Ben Stainton.
Jadon said: "Winning is always important for me, especially playing against people I know, so I was very pleased to win my events.
"The under-14 singles was the hardest event to win, as the semis and final were both very tough matches to get through, and in both I was behind in the first set.
"I always enjoy playing tennis and although I don’t spend much time at RLTCC, it is very supportive and the tournaments are great."
Other Island success included Sian Perry, 13, who won the 14 and under girls’ competition, beating Pippa Pogson in the final 6-1, 6-0, while Harry Stead (RLTCC) did not drop a set on his way to the 18 and under round robin title.
Jevon Dry (RLTCC) won the ten and under round robin competition.
