THERE have so far been two head injuries and one spinal injury in today’s (Saturday) JP Morgan Round the Island Race.
Race organisers, Island Sailing Club, issued a media statement at 11.40am in which they confirmed there had been four incidents.
They said families had been informed and further information would be released when it became available.
One of the incidents involved a small multihull which capsized north of Hamstead Ledge on the north-west of the Isle of Wight. The crew were plucked from the water and taken to Yarmouth.
The fleet of almost 1,650 boats has been battling choppy seas with 1.5 to 2 metre swells and windspeeds of around 15 to 20 knots.
Later in the day, all three casualties were released from hospital.
