Croydon celebrated its biggest- ever carnival in fine style last Saturday as thousands flocked to the borough's annual showpiece event.

Upwards of 30,000 people joined in the fun in Lloyd Park which included funfair rides, stalls, sideshows and various arena entertainments from cheerleaders to a daredevil motorbike team. And many more lined Central Croydon's North End to cheer on the carnival procession as it made its way from West Croydon through the town centre and on to Lloyd Park.

As one of the three main sponsors the Croydon Guardian was also out in force with the Tombola team raising money for the Guardian Community Trust and editor Claire Warren on the panel of judges for the float procession.

Carnival Secretary Pam Peters said the day was a tremendous success.
