Ventnor RFC 1XV travelled with a few forced changes and lost out to an excellent Romsey side who used the blustery conditions to the full on Saturday (January 20).

Romsey 58 – 10 Ventnor

Romsey’s slick back play led to the first impact on the scoreboard, with two quick tries – one converted.

The referee spoke with skipper Ben Savill about Ventnor’s sometimes wayward tackling, and subsequent penalties allowed Romsey to make ground up the left, leading to their third try.

Guy Entwistle saw yellow for a dump tackle, and while he was off, Charlie Magnurson was hurt and later forced to leave the field.

With two men down, Romsey were able to score a fourth try.

Just before half-time, the home side managed to get over for a try, despite a forward pass in the move and Ventnor’s Grant Richardson taking a bang in the face – which saw him leave the field.

Romsey were able to notch up another four tries in the second half, but Ventnor were able to score two excellent tries of their own.

George Collett and Entwistle secured the ball for Ed Blake to force himself over the line before Jason Coltham and James Green made ground ahead of Ben Souter jinxing over.
