East Cowes Vics missed out on a Wessex League play-off position by just one goal despite a thumping victory at home yesterday (Saturday, April 27).

Vics welcomed Frimley to Beatrice Avenue for their final Division One game of the season.

The Islanders had one mission: score two more goals than Fleetlands, who sat on the same number of points and faced New Milton.

East Cowes Vics 5-0 Frimley

The game started at a frantic pace, and a perfect lob over the keeper from Jacob Reynolds, after a brilliant through ball from Harrison Yates, saw Vics take the lead in three minutes.

Frimley were playing to make sure they just got a better score than New Milton to keep themselves from relegation and were making it tough for Vics for the rest of the first half.

In added time, Jez Conway’s strong run saw him taken out in the box and the referee point to the spot.

Jake Wright stepped up to slot home, sending the keeper the wrong way.

Vics had to push for more in the second half, and five minutes after the break, a fine finish from Conway put Vics 3-0 up.

Frimley went down to ten men on 54 minutes after a player showed too much of his studs going into a challenge, and, on the hour mark, another Frimley player was sin-binned for dissent.

Vics took advantage, and in the 62nd, Ji Nash curled in a beauty from the edge of the box.

An effort from Reynolds was saved well in the 75th, but a minute later, a great move saw Raff Boyd-Kerr head home to send the crowd wild.

Wright had the ball in the net on 85 minutes, but the lineman's flag went up late.

At full-time, with everyone wondering what the score was at Fleetlands, phones were being scrolled through the rate of knots.

The unfortunate news followed soon after - Fleetlands had won 4-0, scuppering Vics’ play-off hopes by just one goal difference.
