The inaugural Roy Groves No Nonsense Memorial Trial at Bembridge Down honoured the late stalwart of the Isle of Wight Motorcycle Club (IOWMCC) for over 65 years.
Roy Groves, with his no-nonsense attitude, held almost every possible office, from cup steward to Chairman and President.
Derek Farndell and his team of course setters created eight challenging sections that tested the 38 entrants.
Three experts battled it out for top honours, with Tom Richards claiming second, losing to Adam Morgan, and Will West settling for third.
Shaun Harris topped the intermediates, followed closely by Ajay Shaw and Freddie Death – while Harrison Crickmore finished fourth, possibly rueing his unfortunate ‘collision’ with a dead tree on section one.
Simon Strickland dominated the Open C class without dropping a single mark.
Rory Stephens took the top spot in the over-50s, and Paul Kent won the novices category.
Damian Rajasingam triumphed in the Adult Easy class despite a setback on section two, while Ben Ashcroft went on to take place in the Clubman class.
The youth riders, including Leo Death, Riley Baker and Blake Buggy, showcased their skills admirably.
In tribute to Roy, father and son Rob and George Richards dusted off their trials gear, taking first and second in the Sportsman class.
A spokesperson for the event said: “We can safely say that the first No Nonsense Memorial trial was a resounding success which the club can be proud of, and we look forward to more of the same next year.”
The next event, the first round of the Summer Series, is scheduled for May 12 at a yet-to-be-announced venue.
